The
Pump House
Stunning 112 year old historical building !
This is a One-of-a-kind, absolutely 100% unique property in the heart of Saskatchewan
At about an hour + 15 minutes S.E. of Saskatoon, or an hour + 45 minutes N.E. of Regina, it must be seen to be fully appreciated. The stunning architechture of this Heritage Building features 2-3 feet thick, field-stone exterior walls, the original stamped tin roof, and red clay brick interior walls made from Saskatchewan clay. It has been written about in the book "Legacy of Stone" , a chronicle of historical stone buildings throughout Saskatchewan.
The Pump House is part of history and was originally built in 1912 as a joint project between the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (now CNR) and the then growing town of Watrous, Saskatchewan. As an industrial building, it was built to pump water to Watrous for the NEW transportation of the time ...... steam locomotives.
Unwind at this water's edge retreat on 5+ acres of secluded, mostly untouched, prairie landscape at the very East end of Little Manitou lake. The castle-like Pump House sits amidst a quiet grove of poplars, maples, willows and artesian springs that provide the headwaters for a small creek that runs on the property all but the coldest months of the year.
The Pump House has been lovingly brought back to life by its owners and has been re-created as a summer retreat but it also has commercial possibilities such as a Bed and Breakfast or perhaps an art school. No longer an industrial building, the interior has a "rustic loft / ski chalet" feel to it with soaring 18 foot high hardwood ceilings, ten - nearly 4'x8' arched windows, and carriage style light fixtures throughout. The second floor loft is post and beam construction made of custom milled Saskatchewan tamarack and the walls are hand troweled plaster.
The open concept 950 sq. ft. main floor has a bathroom kitchen & open living areas that lend to a relaxed inviting atmosphere. There is SaskTel cell phone coverage but you won't need it as the games area comes complete with pool & foosball tables and dart board. Or just unwind while reading a book curled up in front of the crackling of the wood burning fireplace. The 625 sq. ft. loft has two generous, furnished bedrooms, and a den / mezzanine area overlooking the black iron railing to the living room area nearly eleven feet below.
The 11' x 36' deck is a cool place to relax on a hot summer afternoon, or you can also find secluded areas for catching some sun. Soak in the remnants of the day as the sun melts into the horizon over the length of the lake, then enjoy a late night fire pit and some star watching while listening to the water birds settle in for the night.
If you are looking for a secluded natural setting, away from the hustle and bustle of today's pressures, and want something completely unique from the other busy lake experiences in Saskatchewan, then take a step back in time and experience the tranquil beauty of the one and only "Pump House" at Little Manitou Lake.
